WHAT I'VE DONE
BLOGS
Finished Karate on purple belt
My story starts when I was 8 years old... I took part in Karate classes. I just graded to the purple belt, but I lost interest at a pivital moment. I was soo close to progressing to an advance level. Then I got banned for 6 months; due to poor performances and I decided to quit. This was a mistake I still regret, little did I realise what impact this could have had on my future.
My best school achievements
My best achievements I got from school were for perfect attendence and punctuality, and a few from playing in the sports teams. I knew education was important for my future, but I really struggled to learn and grasp new things quickly. I remember seeing people who were soo gifted and were really intelligent at everything, I used to envy them soo much. Not just from school but from home as well.
Graduation
I left high school with 4 GCSE's, I did a BTEC course, with the the great support from my friends and teachers I just managed to get top grades and managed to go to University and do a business course. During my three years, I really enjoyed learning about branding and marketing. But, I graduated with a 3rd, leaving very dissapointed and confused, I never gave up hope to get a dream job in marketing.
Customer Service Adviser
After graduating. I decided to take a job as a customer service adviser for a mechanical garage. I was completely thrown in the deep end, having knowing nothing about mechanics. I would train myself learning from other colleagues, read books, learning tutorials from YouTube. For their sub-brand. I did very little marketing work, and after 3 years I started to think to get a marketing job is impossible.
Kickboxing Tournament
Having developed alot of uncertainity about my career. I joined evening classes in martial arts. I started very well as a beginner, I guess my karate skills did come into use. My confidence was growing and growing. One day, I entered a tournament, as a beginner a took a big gamble and I lost in early stages. I learnt alot from that defeat and having flash backs from my karate days. I was really dis-heartened but I did not want to make the same mistake again!
Tiger Muay Thai, Phuket
Having not been on holiday for 3 years! and for first I decided to go travelling for 1 month in Phuket, Thailand on my own. I took part in a famous martial arts camp. This was THE best experience ever. Not only did I meet new friends and I learnt so much from the stories they told. I travelled and visited the islands. From this trip I saw a new perspective in life. It taught me to stay focused, never be afraid of faiure and to take more risks.
Wembley Half Marathan 2017
Another good thing that came from my Thailand trip. It helped me bring back my love for sports again. One of the first things I learnt during GCSE, P.E. was "to be fit, you need to be physically, mentally, socially and emotionally well". I stopped using sports as a tool to release stress and started enjoying it more by interacting with otheres. I completed the wembley half marathan. Although it was physically tough, mentally I knew I can't give up and had to complete it.
Dance competition 2018
I started to take part in spiritual activities and sports such as yoga and dance. During the summer of 2018, I took part in a dance competition. The group I danced with, was the best team I ever worked with. They were very encouraging, very friendly, the community was fantastic. Our team finished 2nd in the whole competition. As you might know, I didn't take the defeat but it was taken very honourably by my peers. I learnt alot from this moment.
ACE Workshop
The following summer, I went to a job fair and I came across an employment charity, Making the Leap. I took part in a 3 week Ace workshop. The charity taught me interview techniques, networking skills and how to give a presentation and many more. They helped identify my strengths and weaknesses. Helped me realise that I am a determined and focused individual. After the workshop I felt rejuvinated and ready to get that job I always wanted to do.
Dream come true
Five years after graduating and 3 months after completing the ACE workshop. I finally got my foot in the door with a Digital Marketing agency, Evokeu. Using what I've learnt from Making the Leap, I network with another member from my martial arts club, who managed to secure me an internship with his company. Everyday I look forward to learning new projects, learning new skills and plan to make the most of this oppotunity and experience.
My proudest day
I continued training in martial arts. This time I didnt quit when things got tough, through any injuries I had,I kept training hard and I finally did it. I became in blackbelt in KTX kickboxing and Muay Thai. The void in my life was finally filled. From this day I'd never looked back to say "what if?" I always looked forward and say "whats next?"
